PROCESS

TASK

Design set for "God of Carnage".

STATEMENT

Carnage:

(1) the flesh of slain animals or men

(2) great and usually bloody slaughter or injury

One could argue that methods of carnage have and are evolving. In what ways is "carnage" manifested? At what scales? What is the role of communication? Can we avoid carnage? Rise above it? Or is it in some ways primal? When is it horrific and when is it righteous? What are the parameters? What are we each willing to tolerate? There exists an assumption that adults will work everything out because they have better developed communication skills than their children...

These were fun and interesting questions to explore as we read and researched "God of Carnage" by Yasmina Reza. I knew the design should be minimalistic, orderly, clean, and cultured; a "safe haven" of security. However, we learn that niceties and political correctness in this space are a facade. Starkly contrasting from the seeming perfection on the outside, there are individual, parental, and marital issues, a "carnage", that wreaks havoc and brings chaos to an otherwise non-chaotic environment.
