PROCESS

TASK

Using the tools in Photoshop, build a hypothetical interior stage to set next design. Build two scenes from a fairytale with scenic transitions and lighting adjustments in the theatre space you created. Create one exterior scene.

STATEMENT

For this project, I chose "Sleeping Beauty" from a provided list of fairytales. Having loved the Disney version of the story, I chose some of my favorite scenes - the three fairies preparing for Aurora's birthday celebration and Prince Phillip fighting Maleficent. For the fairy scene, I honed in on the small details, like flour on the floor, ribbons splayed about, and a plentiful collection of cottage decor. This was to achieve a space that felt as wonderfully full, warm, comedic, and chaotic as the energy in the movie. I knew the fight scene would offer me a great challenge in lighting and scale. I wanted it to feel epic, big, and a little daunting. Both scenes were a challenge in perspective and greatly contrasted from one another offering me a range of learning opportunities and creative freedom.
